What does dreaming about stairway & ladder mean in the Bible?

Jacob dreamed of a stairway joining earth to heaven, angels ascending and descending — and woke saying, "Surely the Lord is in this place, and I was not aware of it." Jesus claimed that image for Himself: He is the stairway. A dream of stairs or ladders may whisper that the ordinary place you stand is nearer to heaven than you knew. In the SoulGuide Dream Guide, stairway & ladder is filed under places — one of 54 symbols in the guide — and is answered with 3 King James Version passages quoted in full: Genesis 28:12, John 1:51, Genesis 28:17. Each passage below carries a short note explaining why it applies to stairway & ladder, so the entry can be read on its own without the rest of the guide.

“And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”

“And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.”

“And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.”
