What does dreaming about drowning mean in the Bible?

Overwhelmed — and drawn out of deep waters

In Scripture

"The waters have come up to my neck" — the psalmist knew the drowning feeling long before dream dictionaries did. It is the language of being overwhelmed. The same psalms answer it: He reached down and drew me out of deep waters. Being in over your head is exactly where His rescue operates.
